4:00 a.m. Sunday, November 3rd, 2002:

It has been a restless night. A night full of random dreams of funerals, caskets and strange happenings.  I am up now, tired but unable to sleep.  In just a few hours and two years ago, my lovely Mother will have faced a horrible end to her life. A violent end to a woman of peace and religion.

I first put up something about my Mother around 6:00 p.m. on that dark and dreary day two years ago.  This morning, I feel I must, put this section into some sort of order.  This is a table of contents of sorts to a terrible story with no happy endings.  I know many of you will have trouble reading this; but it must be told.  We must try to change the way we as a society are rearing our kids.  These kids and young adults were not born evil nor did they get that way over night. It is a story of neglect by parents, neighbors, schools and the criminal justice system. Please read what you can and if you have any thoughts, I would treasure them at jerry@jerrypippin.com.

1. The scene of the crime:

2.  Amanda Kay Lane
Amanda Kay Lane was sentenced to life in prison for the murder. A section is being prepared for Amanda Kay. In the meantime, go here and scroll down to find the account of the prosecution story as told as it happened.

3.  Gary Rightsell

Gary Rightsell is serving 30 years as accessory to murder. Click here for details.

4. Travis Phillips (photo not available)
Travis Phillips received a year probation for obstructing the investigation by police. ( No Link available at this time ) Travis has already been in trouble since his plea bargain and hopefully he will not end up the way Amanda Kay did. The justice system kept giving her another chance and she ended up serving life for murder.

5. Randy Hughart (photo is not available at this time )
Randy Hughart dodged our subpoena to testify.  Witnesses put him in the middle of it all.  He was killed last year by blunt trauma to the head in an altercation with a known drug dealer. We are working on a page for him but in the meantime go here to read about his activity around the crime scene.

6. Troy Newberry
Troy Newberry was there when the murder was planned, we have reason to believe he was at the murder scene, at least outside the house.  He went home and slept for 20 hours after the murder.  He is spending time in the Oklahoma Prison System for other convictions. Local law enforcement officials have been coy about his status, but we do know he was picked up and put back into the  prison system.  We will be adding a page about Troy and his testimony under oath soon.

7.  Gabriel Anderson (photo is not available at this time )
Gabriel Anderson is believed to be involved in the murder as a result of the independent investigation by my family. Amanda testified that he was there as a participant. Unfortunately we have not been able to get the police or District Attorney to agree to investigate or charge him to date. We need the public's help to gather evidence against him privately as we will have to do the police work on this one.

8.  Patti Harvey ( No photo available )
Patti Harvey is now dead. She had a massive heart attack and stroke a few months after the murder. She was active in the neighborhood with the druggies and tried to be a role model to them. They confided in her within an hour of the murder.

9.  CLICK HERE for Megan's Story ( No Photo available)
This link leads you to edited segments from several broadcast interviews with Megan, in studio, shortly after the murder of my Mother. Megan ran with the crowd that killed my Mother and was a user of all types of street drugs. She was beaten about the face and head by Amanda K. Lane with a piece of rubber hose shortly before my Mother was beaten with a baseball bat. Megan has since beaten her drug habit and is on the road to being a law abiding and useful citizen. She did these interviews in an effort to warn parents and users alike that drugs are a dead end.

Status report on the family- two years later:

The photo  shows my three sisters, myself and many of the grand children of Bertha Lee Pippin.  My two daughters, Lisa and Lori, and my two grand children  as well as my sister Marilyn's two boys, Jeff and Gregory and her two grand children were not present for the photo.  This picture was taken after church on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002.

Husband and Father- Virgil Lee Pippin died of complications of advanced Parkinson's Disease shortly before dawn on Christmas Morning, 1988. He is at rest next to my Mother at Memorial Cemetary in Muskogee.

Jerry Pippin is the only son and brother and he still lives in Muskogee and works on the air at KBIX. He suffered loss of his eye sight within six months of the murder and has undergone ten eye operations. His eye sight has not improved and he lives in a shadow world and is only able to continue his work on his web site and radio show with the help of friends, family and his production helpers, Larry Dicken and Sue Hanson.
Beverly Robertson ( daughter and sister)  is working at Walmart and has survived this ordeal in as well as expected way.  She and Mother were very close. They saw each other every day. She lived directly behind my Mother separated only by a small alley.
Marilyn James ( daughter and sister) lives in Grand Prarie Texas and continues to stay in close touch with the rest of the family She is retired.
Linda Marlene McLamore ( daughter and sister) lives in Muskogee and operates her own Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio. She has been and continues to be a pillar of strength for the family.
Grand Children live in Muskogee,  Tahlequah, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and the Dallas/ Fort Worth area.
