To Sighting
Report by Witness Janet Sailor
Report Heading
Subject:
Sighting Report 18205
Type of Report:
Possible UFO Landing(s)
Place of
Sighting: Angel Fire, New Mexico,
Colfax County, USA
Local
Evaluation: Great Significance
To: MUFON
Headquarters/Original Material
From: Dee Gragg,
Field Investigator 10321
Background
I first saw the
rings June 7, 2009 after an ASPE (Alliance Studying Paranormal
Experiences) speaking engagement at Angel Fire. I was shown the
rings by the witness and the rancher. At that time I had not been
assigned as the Field Investigator and I visited the site only as a
knowledgeable observer.
The rings
created intense interest as they looked exactly like photos sent to
me by my good friend Ted Phillips (for use in my UFO class). These
are photos of the Landing Site at Delphos, Kansas1. There was an important difference. A UFO was observed at the trace
left at Delphos. At Angel Fire there were four traces but no UFO
sighting. I proceeded philosophically guided by a quote often
heard from Stan Friedman. “Absence of Evidence is not Evidence of
Absence”.
Investigation
On September 14,
2009 I led a six member investigation team into the field. The team
contained two Field Investigators and a Field Investigator Trainee.
All were MUFON members except for the rancher’s wife.
The site
consisted of an 80 acre meadow of recently mowed Timothy Brougham.
The site longitude, latitude and elevation were recorded but are
omitted here to protect the identity of the rancher and his wife.
Both were cooperative and indispensable to our investigation.
Prior to the
investigation we had speculated that the four rings might form the
landing traces of a large wing vehicle. Our investigation showed
that was probably not the case for these three reasons. (1) Rings
A, B, and C do not form a straight line. See Figure 1. Plan View.
The angle at B is 11 degrees. (2) Ring D is not perpendicular to a
line through Ring B. (3) The distances from the rings to each other
seem to be random.
Therefore, these
are probably not the landing traces of a single vehicle but are
likely that of four smaller vehicles landing or perhaps a single
vehicle(s) landing more than once. The lack of uniformity of the
rings seems also to bear this out. The outside diameters varied
from 6 feet, 3 inches to 12 feet, 2 inches.
Since visiting
the site in June, prairie dogs have dug a hole in the dirt of each
ring. The significance of this is unclear. Perhaps that was just
an easy place to dig. It does mean, however, that the area
underneath is probably full of tunnels, as prairie dogs typically
connect their holes for escape purposes.
I took my watch,
compass, and GPS into the center of Ring A with no apparent effect
then or later. I did this advisedly, understanding that if this
ring had the energy of an authentic crop circle, I could have
expected: (1) the watch to slow down or gain time (2) the compass to
spin wildly or point in the wrong direction and (3) the GPS screen
to turn to blue with the electronics burned out making it
unrepairable2.
Apparently any energy the ring may have had was dissipated by now.
We found a
number of randomly located, burned thistles outside the rings! We
find this hard to explain since the rings have been there since at
least November 2008 and the thistles would have grown since then.
We have no explanation for this peculiar finding.
We took soils
samples from the dirt of the rings as shown in Figure 2. Soil
Sampling. Ring B was used as the control and we took samples out to
200 feet and down to 6 inches. It was hoped that the soil samples
could make a closer tie with Delphos.
However, since
no UFO was sighted, no funds were available for the soils analysis.
The soil samples are double sealed and stored in a container indoors
pending the possibility of funds for their analysis
During the
investigation we were under surveillance by a small, single engine
aircraft. It made several low, slow passes over our work area. We
waved, but received no return signal. There seems to be at least
two possibilities for the surveillance. It could have been another
crude attempt at intimidation by the government as occurred to us
with the black helicopter at Dulce in March.
It also could
have been one of the two groups which asked the witness for
permission to go into the site before the field investigation team.
The witness referred both to me. Curiously, neither group ever
contacted me, so there was never an opportunity to discover their
motives
Expanded
Investigation
While four of us
were taking the measurements, the witness and the rancher’s wife
continued to search further up the meadow and made an interesting
find. Continuing past Ring C, two more rings, Rings E and F were
found. See Figure 3. Nest Area.
Past these two
rings there was an amazing find. There were a number of both rings
and circles. The rings were generally smaller than previously found
and some were in varies stages of new growth in the dirt portion of
the ring. This would appear to be an area which has been used as a
landing site for some years!
In addition to
the rings we also found several circles. These were most amazing.
They were 10 to 12 feet in diameter and had a growth of 12 to 15
inches in height while the grass around them was still at the mowed
height of a few inches. It was as if they had received a super
fertilizer of some type. One possibility is perhaps a second type
of craft is also using this area. But for now, this remains
a mystery yet to be solved.
Conclusions
1. The four
rings are probably not the landing traces of a single vehicle but
are likely that of four smaller vehicles landing or perhaps a single
vehicle(s) landing more than once.
2. The lack of
any effect to my watch, compass, and GPS indicates that any energy
the ring may have had was dissipated by now.
3. There appears
to be no ready explanation for the burned thistles.
4. An analysis
of the soil samples would probably establish a closer tie with
Delphos.
5. If the
aircraft surveillance was an attempt at intimidation, it failed
miserably.
6. The Nest Area
has been used for years as a landing site. There seem to be at
least two types of vehicles using the area.
