Elvis Video Clips

Elvis Presley's first major appearance after the Dorsey Brothers on CBS was Milton Berle's Variety Show on NBC- This clip shows Elvis with his controversial movements on stage. It was in 1956 and the song was "Hound Dog."   This is a you tube video link:

This clip from YouTube is significant for two reasons, one of our KBIX alumni, (the same station where I started in radio and ended my career with a few stops around the country in-between) is mentioned by Steve and Elvis, Don Wallace who got a petition signed by 18,000 listeners to show all of Elvis on TV, not just from the waist up and secondly, it was just before this performance by Elvis that Ed Sullivan had called him back stage and offered him $50,000 per appearance topping Allen's offer of $7,500 per show.

Oh, there is a third reason, Elvis is in a Tux..

Four years before Elvis had a hit with Hound Dog, Big Mama Thornton recorded it and even presented it on TV several times.

Elvis Presley developed into a strong night club performer in later years, CLICK HERE to see him on stage performing "The Wonder of You.

In 1957 Elvis was signed to three appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and by the third appearance both the network CBS and Col. Tom Parker, Elvis' manager were concerned about his image so it was decided that he would sing a gospel song to push him into more mainstream America.
