In
this 6/27/04 interview with Jerry, Toni Gilbert talks about her upcoming
seminars and current book about transpersonal counseling and holistic nursing.
In addition, Toni reads the Tarot cards for Roberta Scott, Jerry's in studio
producer, and Jerry takes the plunge too. His card was Intensity or the Knight
of Fire (pictured on the left). Toni says that Zen says: You have not to be a
follower, an imitator. You have to be an original individual; you have to find
your innermost core on your own, with no guide, no guiding scriptures. It is a
dark night, but with the intense fire of inquiry you are bound to come to the
sunrise. The Knight of Fire represents the archetypal principals of intuition
and creativity in action.

Toni is a Holistic Nurse - Transpersonal Counselor. She is a registered nurse, with a BA in psychology and Art, Master's degree in Transpersonal Studies Certifications in: Holistic nursing, Imagery in Medicine, Interactive Guided Imagery, Tarot, Wellness Counseling and Mind Body Consciousness.
With many years of experience in mental health nursing, Toni offers her clients an array of healing arts techniques. These techniques enhance wellness and prevent illness. Taken together, they complement traditional medicine treatment of disease and injury by adding a holistic psychological and spiritual component. "I believe the client "knows" (i.e. has information at an unconscious, or soul, level) about the healing that needs to happen. The challenge, for the artist-healer, is to draw this information to the surface, to the conscious awareness of the client, where it can be utilized. The healer knows the art of being present---it's like waiting for a birth. This waiting, and the acting upon one's intuition in the moment, is essential. It is impossible to decide ahead of time what will be needed. The process must be unstructured, allowing for the wholeness of the individual to be gradually, and creatively, born into health", says Gilbert. "Since the mind can affect the systems of the body (such as immune system), the use of psychology to facilitate a change in the systems is reasonable."
